Creative Institute of Dental Arts has made a $229,000 offer for the former New Port Richey police station.

NEW PORT RICHEY -- The former headquarters for the New Port Richey police might become a denture factory.

The owners of Creative Institute of Dental Arts have made the only bid for the former police station, a 5,000-square-foot building at 5528 Louisiana Ave. The New Port Richey police left the station in March and moved into a new building on Adams Street.

Steven DeMatos, co-owner of the dental lab, made a $229,000 bid for the building, which is equal to the appraised value of the land and the building. Creative Institute of Dental Arts makes dentures, implants, bridges and crowns and has been in operation since 1974. It is now located at 5733 Grand Blvd. According to a memo to the City Council from City Manager Gerald Seeber, the property drew only one other bidder, who eventually withdrew.

City Council members will decide at Tuesday night's meeting whether to accept the bid.
