Speedway schedule gets canceled by rain

INVERNESS -- Bad weather reared its head Saturday at Citrus County Speedway -- again.

With a full pit and drivers ready to go, a brief shower slowed the regular 6 p.m. start for about an hour. By 6:45, the track had dried. But a lightning strike a few minutes later, followed by more rain, cleared the stands, and races were canceled.

Rain has affected 11 events this season. There are no races Saturday night because the speedway is playing host to the Citrus County Fair Antique Tractor Show and Tractor Pull.

When action resumes at the track Aug. 31, the six regular divisions will compete. Additionally, the Figure 8s return.
