Letters to the EditorsFireworks apparently concern many people© St. Petersburg Times published August 25, 2002 Re: Fireworks question lights leaders' fuses. The Aug. 14 article by Anne Lindberg has led to a surprising response from residents of Pinellas Park. Judging from the large number of telephone calls I received, people are concerned mainly about the following issues: the length of time and number of times they are subjected to the annoyance, the danger they perceive to their houses and themselves, the appearance of lawlessness, the effect on pets, and in the northern parts of the city, the trauma and possible harm to valuable horses. The only Pinellas Park council member who expressed concern at the last meeting about the growing hazards of uncontrolled fireworks was Mayor Bill Mischler. Mischler is involved in several organizations through which support for our citizens may be achieved. Concerned residents are urged to contact Mischler to encourage him to work with other political bodies for a solution to the fireworks problem.
PSTA service is indeed lackingRe: Waiting in Midtown, Aug. 18. Congratulations on the excellently researched feature describing the infrequent and often poorly scheduled bus service offered in Pinellas County by the PSTA. Veterans like myself find that in taking the 18 south from Bay Pines to Tyrone Square Mall, we miss the once-an-hour southbound 7 by just five minutes and have to wait 55 minutes for the next one. Every official on the PSTA board should have to read this report. I am sending each one a copy.
