Roller hockey clinics scheduled

United Skates of America will hold an open house and free roller hockey clinics from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 4 and 9 to 10 a.m. Sept 7. The clinics are in preparation for the rink's fall roller hockey season. The skating rink is at 5121 N. Armenia Ave. For information, call 876-6544, ext. 5.

New Tampa Family YMCA to have benefit triathlon

The New Tampa Family YMCA will host a triathlon, Tri-ing for a Cure, Nov. 2 to benefit the Epilepsy Research Foundation and the YMCA Youth Scholarship Fund. The triathlon will feature races for adults and children, advanced and novice.

The adult triathlon entails a .25-mile swim, a 10-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run. First-time adult triathlete events are combined with races for 15- to 18-year-olds: a 200-yard swim, 5.4-mile bike and 1.2-mile run.

Events for 7- to 10-year-olds are a 100-yard swim, a 3.8-mile bike and a .8-mile run. For ages 11 to 14 events are a 200-yard swim, a 5.4-mile bike and a 1.2-mile run.

Prizes, food and entertainment will follow the triathlon. Registration closes Oct. 27. Entry fee is $40 for individuals and $80 for relay teams if postmarked by Sept 30; the fee increases through Oct. 25.
