SportsCenter will have a countdown of its top promotional commercials. Here's a synopsis, in no particular order:
AROUND THE WORLD: Dan Patrick and Kenny Mayne do international SportsCenter editions while dressed in regional garb (including massive sombreros).
BROADCAST NEWS: A relay that includes athletes such as Evander Holyfield, Pete Sampras and Drew Bledsoe delivering a tape just in time for SportsCenter.
CORNERMEN: Boxing trainer Lou Duva and his team work on anchor Rich Eisen during a commercial break. Eisen says in despair, "I can't go back out there."
MIXED REVIEWS: Anchors Kenny Mayne and Dan Patrick offer differing assessments of their performances in a locker room interview. Finally, Patrick becomes irritated with the interviewer: "It's starting to wear on me. . . . Yeah, it's the greatest job in the world. That's what I tell you guys."
Y2K: SportsCenter prepares for computer glitches caused by the change to the year 2000. The spot ends with anchor Charlie Steiner, wearing a tie as a bandana and carrying a lantern, shouting, "Follow me to freedom!"
