LAKE BUENA VISTA -- A woman taking part in an Orlando Rays promotion collapsed and died as she ran across the field in search of a hidden diamond.
Victoria Lampe, 28, was one of about 250 women and girls who took part in the promotion after Friday night's game between the Rays and Jacksonville Suns.
The object of the promotion is to run from the outfield wall to the infield and search through the dirt for a small box containing a diamond, Rays public relations vice president Rick Vaughn said.
Lampe appeared to have a seizure in the infield of Disney's Wide World of Sports stadium, according to Bo Jones, a spokesman for Reedy Creek Fire Department.
The Orlando woman was pronounced dead at Celebration Hospital. No foul play is suspected.
"Just as she got to the infield, she collapsed facefirst," Vaughn said. "It's a terrible, tragic accident. Our thoughts are with the family."
