Code to skip senior H.S. season

TAMPA -- Top national junior golfer Mallory Code will not return to play for Chamberlain for her senior season.

Code, who attends home school and takes dual-enrollment classes at Hillsborough Community College, said she felt it would not be fair to her teammates to only show up to a few tournaments and no practices this season.

Her commitments to national events, such as September's Ping Junior Solheim Cup and the Junior Ryder Cup, would have conflicted with Chamberlain's tournament schedule.

"I do think not playing in high school events is also going to be better for me health-wise," Code said.

Code, who has cystic fibrosis, diabetes and asthma, finished fourth at the Class 2A state tournament. She placed fifth in 2000, leading the Chiefs to a third consecutive state title.

"I'm really going to miss playing for a high school team," Code said. "I was glad to be a part of Chamberlain golf."

Code was named to the Times All-Hillsborough County first team in 2000, and received honorable mention in 2001. She will join her sister, Whitney, at the University of Florida next year.
