County Commission candidate David "Hap" Clark apparently has found a cash cow for his campaign: himself.
A little more than $12,000 poured into his campaign coffers in the first two weeks of the month for the filing period that ended Aug. 16. But $10,000 of that came from a check he wrote to his campaign and another $452 he gave himself in cash.
The remaining $1,900 came from developers and contractors. The total donations were $12,352. The biggest donation after his own was $500 each from two developers and a contractor.
Added to a little more than $5,000 he gave himself earlier in the campaign, Clark has collected $17,402.
He is running against Commissioner Steve Simon in the Sept. 10 primary for District 4. Because there is no Republican opponent, all registered voters in the county will choose between the two Democrats in the September election.
Simon raised $15,110 during the same fundraising period. The deadline to file or postmark reports was Friday.
Simon's contributions came from a combination of developers, real estate brokers, festival organizers, lawyers, doctors and physical therapists. His total contributions now stand at $45,280.
