AchieversBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published August 28, 2002 Four Pinellas County teachers will receive approximately $40,000 to expand previously funded classroom mini-grant programs. Grants of up to $10,000 each, funded by Bank of America and administered by the Pinellas County Education Foundation, will enable them to expand their programs to include other classrooms or to feature them schoolwide. The 2002 Bank of America Incubator Grant winners include Beth Griffin, Bay Point Elementary, for "The Teaching of Writing as a Craft"; Cheryl Sinks, Frontier Elementary, for "Destination Florida: Past, Present and Future"; Leslie Pohley, Largo Middle School, for "Physics, PE and Me"; and Sara Dubbeld, Gibbs High, for "Zora: Florida's Link to the Harlem Renaissance." Ten finalists, who competed for the four grants, were chosen from 93 2001-02 mini-grant recipients. These teachers, in addition to the four mentioned, received $500 awards: Lisa Foushee, Gibbs High, for "Improving Student Academic Achievement Through Authentic Scientific Inquiry"; Regina Johnson, Bay Point Elementary, for "Home Literacy Bags"; Mary Katica, Dunedin Highland Middle School, for "Tutoring is TOPS"; Rose Mack, Lakewood High for "BEAM: the Little Robot Workshop and Competition"; Nora Maddox, North Ward Elementary, for "Intermediate Victories in Reading"; and Casey Turner, Clearview Avenue Elementary for "Project MATH Tote." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
