Those pop-up advertisements that irritate Internet users are still preferable to what Stephen Dorff finds on the Web in FearDotCom. Dorff (Deuces Wild, Blade) plays a New York City detective investigating four murders. The victims had only one thing in common: recent visits to an Internet site called fear.com. The cop teams with a Department of Health researcher (Natascha McElhone, The Truman Show) to arrest whoever created the killer site and banish him to America Online. Just kidding about the AOL part, but it might be more clever than what screenwriter Josephine Coyle devised. Stephen Rea (The Crying Game) is billed third in the cast, a tell-tale sign of his character's guilt, with terminal bad guy Udo Kier (you'll know him when you see him) tossed in as a red herring. Warner Bros. didn't schedule an advance screening in time for Weekend review.
