Toddler nearly drowns

LARGO -- A toddler was in critical condition Sunday after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool during a family get-together in Largo.

Officials said police were called about 5 p.m. to a home at 1042 Second St. SW.

The 20-month-old girl was not breathing, he said. Rescue workers gave her CPR, and she began breathing. She was taken by ambulance to Largo Medical Center. She was later transferred to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.

The child's name was not provided by police.

Officials said the family was gathered at the home, but briefly lost track of the toddler. It was unknown how long the child was in the water.
