Crystal River police horse diesBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published September 4, 2002 CRYSTAL RIVER -- Snickers, a miniature horse that was a member of the Police Department's mounted patrol, died Saturday, City Manager Phil Lilly said. The 51/2-year-old brown and white gelding apparently ingested some rope more than a week ago; an autopsy revealed rope tangled in the horse's small intestines, Lilly said. Snickers, one of four horses used by the department, was too small to ride, so he was used as a showpiece for children. He was donated two years ago by a woman in Brandon who could no longer care for him. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
