Villaggio at Tierra Verde shall rise

TIERRA VERDE -- Life No. 3 for the Villaggio at Tierra Verde, a luxury condominium complex with prices ranging from $599,000 to $749,000, is as an R. Jan Kahler community.

Irwin Contracting Inc., which built Vinoy Place condominiums in St. Petersburg, is the builder.

The latest announcement follows those of two other developers who had the same idea for the property in the 600 block of Pinellas Bayway: six buildings and 36 units with three bedrooms, three bathrooms and two-car garages each.

JMC Communities of St. Petersburg said in 2000 that it would build the Villaggio but withdrew from the project because it could get only 20 boat slips for the 36 homes.

Then Villaggio became a project of Michael Bierly of Orlando this year. Kahler, whose operations are based in Clearwater, bought out Bierly.

John Bowden, director of operations for Irwin, says construction should begin in December and take about a year to complete.

Silk plant, pottery shop open to all

ST. PETERSBURG -- Suncoast Silks and Pottery at 3390 46th Ave. N has opened its warehouse to the public.

Terrie Corson, one of three owners of the Suncoast Silks, said the business was turning away would-be customers every day because it catered to designers, both residential and commercial, and garden centers and did floral arrangements for resorts.

As of Aug. 1, the warehouse in Joe's Creek industrial park is open to retail customers.

The business sells artificial flowers, decorative pottery, pots for flower arrangements, planters, outdoor furniture, baskets and other decorative items.

The other two owners of the business are Mary Jane Peabody and Roberta Johnson. Corson said the three women are equal owners. Suncoast Silks has been open since 1991. Its current location is its third and largest.
