A Pinellas County man was shot and killed Sunday in a hunting accident in Levy County.
Charles Ellis Whitfield, 57, 12313 Tree St., Largo, was killed by a shotgun blast that struck him in the back, according to Lt. Dewey Weaver of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which investigated the shooting.
Whitfield was hog hunting in the woods with his daughter, Crystal Star Whitfield, 25, 7051 SE 38th Ter., Gulf Hammock, about 7 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred. Weaver said Crystal Whitfield was holding a shotgun and walking behind her father when she tripped and somehow discharged the weapon.
The shooting happened in the town of Gulf Hammock, which is off U.S. 19 between Inglis and Chiefland in Levy County.
No charges have been filed. Weaver said the commission has ruled the shooting accidental.
