Zoning: Church needs rezoningBy Times staff© St. Petersburg Times published September 8, 2002 CITRUS PARK: St. Mark's Episcopal Church may have found its congregation a new home near the Citrus Park Town Center. The Carrollwood Village church is eyeing nearly 6 acres off Cain Road, where it hopes to relocate. Last November, the church entered an agreement that allowed Hillsborough County to purchase its current sanctuary at Casey and Lowell roads and convert it into a community center. The 20,000-square-foot building would be remodeled and used for town hall meetings, art classes and social events. St. Mark's has a contract agreement to purchase the Cain Road land, but only if the county approves the church's request to build a 500-seat sanctuary on land zoned only for a 300-seat church. A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the request Oct. 18 (Petition 02-1329) WESTCHASE: A developer wants permission to sell alcohol at a self-service car wash and lube facility proposed for the northwest corner of Hillsborough Avenue and Countryway Boulevard. Jallo Wash & Lube Inc. plans to build a 1,135-square-foot retail store in addition to the wash and lube service station. The company wants a special-use permit that will allow for beer and wine sales for off-premises consumption only. The property lies within the county's required minimum distance from homes. A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the petition Oct. 18. (Petition 02-1319) NORTHDALE: A local deli also is hoping the county will issue it a special-use permit that will allow beer and wine sales for on-site consumption. New York Deli Co. at 15415 N Dale Mabry Highway is asking permission to sell beer and wine at its restaurant in Dibbs Center. It is within the county's required minimum distance from residential zoning. The request is scheduled to be heard by a land use hearing officer Oct. 18. (Petition 02-1327) NORTHDALE: The Jiffy Lube at 16207 N Dale Mabry Highway wants to install a bigger sign along the road. The company seeks a variance that will allow an 80-square-foot sign, 10-feet high. According to the petition submitted to the county, Jiffy Lube is blocked by other structures and cannot be seen from Dale Mabry Highway, "making it difficult for customers to find them." A land use hearing officer is scheduled to hear the petition Oct. 18. (Petition 02-1320) When and whereHearings of county zoning hearing masters and land use hearing officers and land use meetings of the County Commission are held on the second floor of the County Center, 601 E Kennedy Blvd. Zoning hearings begin at 6 p.m., and commission meetings begin at 9 a.m. Both are televised on government access channels.
