Land O'Lakes man dies after Thursday accident

LAND O'LAKES -- A 51-year-old man died Saturday from injuries suffered in a Thursday ATV wreck, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

On Thursday, Clifford Ralph Appleton of Land O'Lakes was driving his 1999 Polaris ATV west on the sidewalk by State Road 54 when he hit a fire hydrant and flipped. He was flown from the accident scene near Oak Grove Boulevard to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, where he died Saturday, troopers said.

43-year-old man jailed on molestation charges

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 43-year-old man was arrested Friday on charges that he molested an 8-year-old boy, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Walter Dale Tompkins of 12240 Wonder Ave. in New Port Richey faces charges of lewd and lascivious molestation and two counts of capital sexual battery, deputies said.

Tompkins was being held without bail Saturday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes.

Woman arrested after a stop for littering

PORT RICHEY -- A woman who was pulled over Friday after she threw Burger King trash out the window ended up in jail on felony charges, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

Rose Ann Manzella, 38, of Safety Harbor threw a cup and bag out the window about 4:15 p.m. on Embassy Boulevard near Ledgestone Lane, according to a sheriff's report. When the deputy pulled her over, Manzella said she didn't have a valid driver's license.

Then, according to the report, she told the deputy: "I have money. How much will this take to get out of this?"

Manzella faces charges of bribery and driving with a suspended license, the report states.

She was released Saturday from county jail in Land O'Lakes without having to post bail.

Man faces cocaine, robbery charges

NEW PORT RICHEY -- A 21-year-old man was arrested Friday after Pasco County sheriff's deputies said he grabbed a woman's purse at the Ramada Inn, 5015 U.S. 19.

According to a sheriff's report, about 6:36 p.m. Jose Angel Diaz grabbed the woman's purse, which had $200 inside, and ran up the stairs at the motel. After he was arrested, deputies said they found crack cocaine he hid in Room 214.

Diaz faces charges of strong arm robbery, possession of cocaine and failure to appear in court on a previous charge, deputies said.

He was being held Saturday at the county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $16,013 bail.

Burglaries reported in three new homes

WESLEY CHAPEL -- Three homes under construction in the Grand Oaks subdivision were burglarized last weekend, Pasco County sheriff's deputies said.

The burglaries weren't reported to deputies until Friday, according to a sheriff's report.

The homes were unlocked Aug. 29 so various work crews could get inside, the report states. Between 9 a.m. and noon two homes had kitchen sink faucets stolen -- one on Trinidad Drive and the other on Balsam Drive. A microwave oven was reported stolen from another home on Trinidad Drive.
