Letters to the EditorsPublic meeting on 9/11 is entirely appropriate© St. Petersburg Times published September 10, 2002 Re: Business meeting on 9/11? Ridiculous, Sept. 9 letter. Editor: What better way to mark the anniversary of an attack on democracy than to hold a public meeting to solicit public comment on an issue affecting our citizens? Not only should the public hearing be held, but the men and women of the Parks and Recreation Board should be proud of their positive impact on local government policy. Despots past, present, and future now know that government by the people survived Sept. 11.
Man's pain not reason enough to commit crimeRe: Punishment of lifelong pain should sway court mercy, Sept. 6 letter. Editor: Laws are meant to be tough and stern. While the writer describes Mr. Paey's aching pain trying to get someone to pity him, did she stop to think that perhaps it would have taken less time to see a doctor and have necessary medication prescribed for him rather than commiting an unnecessary crime? I don't care how much pain a person is in, it does not make it okay to commit a crime. At least being in jail now he can get the drug and medical treatment he needs. You should now sleep uneasy each night knowing that you approve a crime being commited to ease one's pain.
Captured stray dog will soon be up for adoptionEditor: To all you animal lovers who have been following the story of the stray dog in Timber Oaks, good news! Pasco County Animal Control Officer Kevin Mallory was finally able to use a tranquilizer dart and capture her. This streetwise girl lived on the streets for more than three years and possibly even longer. Many animal lovers fed her while many of their neighbors were not so nice. She would not let any of the people who fed her get near her. A few days after her capture, Animal Control Officer Karen Curry was able to get her to eat out of her hand after a few days, was then able to pet her. Curry said she is very shy, but she is a very sweet dog. Pet Aid Service Society Inc. (PASS) has been involved with trying to catch her ever since the first letter to the editor written by Don Paulie was published in July. Pasco County Animal Control transferred ownership to PASS and we sent her to a veterinarian where she is getting a good checkup, testing for heartworms, vaccines and spayed if she isn't already. After that, she will go to a foster home and when she is ready, she will go to a permanent home. If you are interested in adopting this incredible little survivor, call Marj (727) 817-1812. Anyone wanting to make a donation to help with her care may do so at the PASS IT ON Thrift Store, 9458 U.S. 19, Port Richey (across from Gulfview Mall, next to Office Depot) or mail it to that address.
