9/11 schedule of eventsBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published September 11, 2002 Service of Remembrance scheduled at noon A Service of Remembrance for Downtown St. Petersburg will be held today from noon to 12:45 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 467 First Ave. N. Choirs will include the St. Petersburg College Chorus, St. Petersburg College Community Chorus and Christ United Methodist, First United Methodist, Allendale United Methodist and Riviera United Methodist churches. Soloist Rod Frankland, a tenor and retired St. Petersburg Police Department detective, also will perform. The service will be led by pastors from Christ United Methodist, First United Methodist, Allendale United Methodist and Riviera United Methodist churches. United We Stand service at 6:30 p.m. todayPINELLAS PARK -- Community in Unity, an informal alliance of community churches, will present United We Stand, a memorial service honoring the victims of last year's terrorist attacks, today. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. with patriotic music by the Pinellas Park High School band. An hourlong ceremony of song, prayer and reflection will begin at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public regardless of religious or church affiliation. Saturday concert will include Sept. 11 memorialPINELLAS PARK -- Music from the '60s will be the entertainment from 7-11 p.m. Saturday night at the England Brothers Bandshell. The event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a memorial ceremony remembering the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on America and honoring police, fire and emergency workers. Folks who tire of dancing or singing along can take a look at the "oldies" car display while munching on refreshments sold by community groups. The cost is $6 with $5 going to the Widows and Children's Fund for families of Hillsborough County firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty.
