By Times staff writer Pine Island beach closed to swimmingPINE ISLAND -- Swimming will be forbidden at Pine Island for at least another week, county health officials said Wednesday. Al Gray of the health department said tests still showed high levels of enterococci in the water. He said the amount of fecal coliform has decreased. Pine Island has been closed to swimmers since Sept. 4, when health officials detected high levels of bacteria that can cause disease, rashes or infections. The beach at Pine Island is still open for sunbathing. Another round of tests will be done next Wednesday, Gray said. Woman accused of harassing motel guestsBROOKSVILLE -- A 20-year-old Brooksville woman was arrested Tuesday after authorities said she harassed guests at the Budget Inn on E Jefferson Street. Sheriff's deputies charged Vaniese Yvette Silas of 50 Railroad Place with burglary. Authorities said Silas had been knocking on doors at the Budget Inn and asking guests whether they wanted a date. One guest told deputies that she returned from dinner and found Silas climbing into her room. Silas said she was looking for her daughter in the room, authorities said. She told deputies she went to the hotel to meet a man for a date. Silas was released from the Hernando County Jail on her own recognizance, a jail spokesman said. 46-year-old man charged with DUISPRING HILL -- James Michael Maye Sr. was arrested Tuesday and charged with driving under the influence. The 46-year-old Maye was charged in October with principal to trafficking marijuana and possession of methamphetamine. Authorities said they think Maye and his family supplied marijuana to numerous drug dealers across Hernando County. On Tuesday, authorities stopped Maye on Landover Boulevard. Deputies said his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. They took him to the Hernando County Jail, where he refused a breath test, authorities said.
