The Hernando boys team won a tri-meet Thursday at Crystal River.
The Leopards scored 17 points to finish ahead of Lecanto and Crystal River. Despite running on an undulating course that made it difficult to find a rhythm, Logan Emerson placed first in 17 minutes, 40 seconds.
"He got out in front and pretty much left everybody and ran pretty well," Hernando coach Ernie Chatman said. "That was significant to me, knowing the course was a little rough." The Leopards' Bret Chatman was second, 18:52; Phil Dysart third, 18:55; Zak Lukas fifth, 18:59; and injured Michael Laird (hamstring) sixth, 19:02. The Hernando girls were second with 42 points, five behind Crystal River. Lecanto, without its No. 3-5 runners, took third at 43. Leela Hadsock was the first Leopard to cross the finish line and fourth overall. Teammates following her were Danielle Churchill, Katee Lukas, Megan Murphy and Nicole Daughtry.
