MIAMI -- A man sought in the killing of his Tampa girlfriend was arrested Wednesday, police said.

Carmen Winter's body was found Monday morning in the back seat of her car outside her home on West Arch Street. Police said she had been bludgeoned with a concrete block.

Her boyfriend, Jesus C. More, 36, was arrested near a Miami hotel after an employee reported finding blood in his room. Police said he had cut his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt and told them of the killing when officers found him walking near the hotel.

More, who had taken a bus to Miami, suffered minor cuts to his wrist and was taken into custody. Tampa police said he was charged with first-degree murder. He was being held in a Miami jail Wednesday night.

Police said they believe More and Winter, 34, were out Sunday night at the La Rumba club. After returning to the Arch Street home, More beat Winter to death during an argument, Tampa detectives said. Her body was found by her 12-year-old son.

More is from the Virgin Islands and had stayed with Winter on-and-off for about a month, police said.
