Newest Hale Road extension would be further from homes

LAND O'LAKES -- Pasco County wants to extend Hale Road to Parkway Boulevard in Land O'Lakes, but it plans to do so without plowing through the back yards of about 25 homes.

Two earlier alignments placed the Hale Road extension close to the rear property lines of houses on the north side of Shining Star Drive in the Lake Padgett Estates East neighborhood.

But complaints last winter from neighbors sent Pasco engineers back to the drawing board. They emerged this month with a third alignment: steering Hale Road well north of the Shining Star houses.

County Engineer James Widman recommends county commissioners approve the less disruptive third alignment at their meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Dade City.

Once complete, Hale Road would extend an extra half-mile from its dead end at Canterbury Drive to Parkway Boulevard opposite the entrance to Eagle Island Estates.
