Richey Suncoast honors 'Mack and Mabel' show

NEW PORT RICHEY -- The musical Mack and Mabel was the big winner when Richey Suncoast Theatre gave out a dozen acting, crewing and special awards Thursday evening. Dubbed "Tommys" after theater builder and silent film star Thomas Meighan, the cast and crew winners were chosen by audience members at each show in the 2001-2002 season.

NEW PORT RICHEY -- The musical Mack and Mabel was the big winner when Richey Suncoast Theatre gave out a dozen acting, crewing and special awards Thursday evening. Dubbed "Tommys" after theater builder and silent film star Thomas Meighan, the cast and crew winners were chosen by audience members at each show in the 2001-2002 season.

Mack and Mabel, based on the romance between silent film director Mack Sennett and his favorite leading lady, Mabel Normand, won seven of the 11 cast and crew awards.

Production of the Year, based on highest attendance, went to The Sound of Music. Director Rick Bronson accepted the award.

Other winners were Jerry Slutzky, best actor, Mack and Mabel; Lori Beth Swensen, best actress, Mack and Mabel; Justin Sargent, best supporting actor, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Dominica Sinopoli, best supporting actress, Mack and Mabel; Dick Poole, best director, Mack and Mabel; Charlie Skelton, best scenic design, I Do! I Do!; Dick Poole, best costumes, Mack and Mabel; Marie Skelton, best choreography, Sound of Music; Keith Cox, best lighting design, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown; Stella Gaukshteyn, best music director, Mack and Mabel; and Fiona Donohue, best stage manager, Mack and Mabel. A special "Favorite Angel" award was given to Alma Scheuer for her work and financial contributions to the theater.
