Police briefsBy Times staff© St. Petersburg Times published September 15, 2002 INSURANCE OFFICES ROBBED: Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies were searching for a man they suspect is responsible for robbing two insurance businesses in north Tampa. An armed man robbed Colucci Insurance, 1441 E Fletcher Ave., at 12:25 p.m. Monday. The next day, an armed man robbed A-OK Insurance, 7530 W Waters Ave., at 6:30 p.m. Both times, the man fled on foot. Deputies were looking for a white man, in his late 40s to early 50s, 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches tall, and 220 to 240 pounds. He has a reddish gray beard and wore a white shirt in one robbery and a black shirt in another. He also wore blue jeans, sunglasses and a light blue baseball cap. NORTH TAMPA MAN KILLED BY FALLING GLASS: A 30-year-old man died Monday morning after 3,800 pounds of mirrored glass fell on him, authorities said. Boris Cabrera of 6803 W Burke St. walked into the West Tampa Glass Co. shortly before 9 a.m., looking for a job. Cabrera had entered the business through the back shipping area as two employees were unloading 31 mirrors from a crate. Tampa police said that the mirrors slipped and all slid out of the crate. The employees yelled to Cabrera to stay away, but he was struck in the chest by the mirrors. TAMPA PALMS ATM ROBBED: A would-be thief used a front-end loader to try to break into an ATM in New Tampa early Wednesday. The person ripped the ATM out of the Bank of America at 15301 Amberly Drive but did not get any money from it. When police arrived, the person had fled, leaving behind the John Deere front-end loader and the ATM.
