SEMINOLE -- Clearwater's two-time winner, Top of the Line Pool Service, led a 46-team field after Saturday's qualifying in the ABC Brunswick World Team Challenge at Seminole Lanes.
Storm X-Men of Orlando, Kegel Training Center of Wauchula and Team Columbia of Pensacola also gained the Baker format final at 3 p.m. today. Saturday's fifth- through 12th-place teams, including Jeff Edens Pro Shop and Dave Olm Pro Shop of Tampa, return at 9 a.m. for 10 Baker games, with the top four advancing to the eight-team stepladder final.
Top of the Line, captained by James Campbell, totaled 6,342 pins over six qualifying games, 131 better than X-Men. Kegel toppled 6,200 pins and Team Columbia 6,132. Campbell's team recorded one sub-1,000-pin game (987) and had a 1,123 second game. The squad started with a 1,065 game.
The X-Men went from sixth to second in its last game of 1,111 after two 900-plus games and three barely above 1,000. Kegel was in seventh after three games but moved to third with games of 1,043, 1,038 and 1,057. Team Columbia held second until its sixth game of 974 dropped it to fourth.
The highest area nonqualifier was Tampa's Wallpaper by Sam in 16th at 5,758. Scanga Pro Shop and Image Creations, both of St. Petersburg, finished 20th and 21st, respectively.
