PLAYER: Mathieu Biron.
POSITION: Defense.
AGE: 22.
HT./WT.: 6-6; 226.
HOMETOWN: Lac-St. Charles, Quebec.
WHAT'S UP: Biron is a nice guy. That may not be the most effective demeanor for a hockey player.
* * *
"He's an easy-going kid, and sometimes he brings it with him onto the ice," coach John Tortorella said. "You can't have that nice-guy mentality to win hockey games."
Biron can make the first pass out of the defensive zone, which is something the Lightning desperately needs. He must show consistency in his positioning and physical game.
Biron split time last season between Tampa Bay and AHL Springfield. He is a long shot to crack the top seven.
"This is my opportunity," he said. "There might be another one later, but I want to take this one now."
