Honors

The University of Tampa will recognize its greatest athletes of the 20th Century with a Hall of Fame induction ceremony Oct. 17. Making its first inductions since 1988, the school will honor former football standout Freddie Solomon and baseball player Tino Martinez.

Solomon was an All-American quarterback for the Spartans in the 1970s before playing professionally as a wide receiver with the Dolphins and 49ers. Martinez, meanwhile, was an All-American at UT in the early '90s and has played in the major leagues with the Mariners, Yankees and Cardinals.

In addition to Solomon and Martinez, the school will induct eight former student/athletes, recognize former baseball coach Lelo Prado, current volleyball coach Chris Catanach and honor the 1992 national championship baseball team.

Also, former UT football coaches Marcelino Huerta and Earle Bruce will be recognized for their recent elections to the college football Hall of Fame.
