Tiger sets sights on majors, not gold medal

Tiger Woods would rather play for green than gold.

While not ruling out a possible trip to the Olympics should golf be added in 2008, Woods said a gold medal wouldn't be the biggest prize in his sport.

"It certainly does excite me," Woods said. "But which one would you rather win? An Olympic gold medal or one of the four major championships?"

Woods already has won three green jackets at Augusta National, along with two PGAs and a British and U.S. Open.

MORE GOLF: Woods will begin using Nike's new irons tomorrow at the American Express Championship in Ireland. ... The Pennsylvania Classic will be played from 2003-07 at the Mystic Rock course at the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmingdale, Pa. ... BASKETBALL: The Indiana Sports Corporation, which organized the World Basketball Championships, reported an expected loss of $2.69-million. ... Former WNBA All-Star Brandy Reed was jailed on outstanding warrants after her arrest on disorderly conduct charges. ... The Magic signed free-agent forward Jermaine Walker. ... COLLEGES: Florida State runners Tonya Carter, Sheryl Covington, Samantha George, Laura Gerber and Erica Sheppard were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's 50th anniversary women's indoor team. Jeff Bray and Phillip Riley were named to the men's team. ... University of Tampa junior Elias Gonzales was named Sunshine State Conference cross country runner of the week. ... University of Tampa sophomore goalkeeper Steve Smith and senior forward Katie Calvin were named SSC soccer players of the week. ... SOCCER: Mauro Ramos de Oliveira, captain of the Brazilian team that won the 1962 World Cup, died of cancer, according to media reports. He was 72. ... ROWING: Simon Carcagno and Michael Altman of the United States advanced to the lightweight pair semifinals with the fastest qualifying time at the world championships. Other U.S. crews advanced in these events: men's four with coxswain, women's lightweight double sculls, men's lightweight four and men's lightweight and heavyweight quads.

CYCLING: Pablo Lastras won the 11th stage of the Tour of Spain in Collado Villalba, while Oscar Sevilla retained the overall lead.
