Craft an eventful fall
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer CRYSTAL RIVER -- The arts and crafts show season is starting to get busy with several shows scheduled over the coming weeks. The Christmas in September arts and crafts show sponsored by the Pilot Club of Crystal River, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the National Guard Armory on W Venable Street just east of U.S. 19. Admission is free. As its name implies, the show will have lots of personalized and handmade holiday decorations. Audience members will have a chance to buy a ticket for a drawing of a 3-foot Christmas tree decorated in patriotic colors. Tickets cost $1. The works of about 80 crafters will be available both inside the auditorium and outside on the parking lot. There will also be barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and other foods available. Classic cars will be displayed in the parking lot by the Nature Coast Knights. The show is also a major fundraiser for the Pilot Club, which uses the money to fund local scholarships and civic improvements. Past recipients have included Alzheimer's research, the Boys and Girls Clubs, Hospice and CUB. Upcoming arts and crafts shows include: -- Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park will have its eighth annual Fall Arts and Crafts Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12-13 at the Visitors Center on U.S. 19 and Halls River Road. The park is seeking area businesses and individuals to sponsor purchase awards for either $50 or $100. Call Dotty Hahn at 628-6839. The festival will include the works of about 60 exhibitors, and it is a juried show. Free admission and parking. Call 628-5343, ext. 103. -- An old-fashioned festival and bazaar, sponsored by the Citrus Springs Civic Association, will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at the Citrus Springs Welcome Center on U.S. 41 and N Citrus Springs Boulevard near the fountain. Entertainment by the Dixie Rose Band, Jimmy Bergland, Nadine Tull, Jackie Sharp's School of Music and JQ and Peg. Food and shopping booths are included. There are still some 10- by 15-foot booth spaces available for vendors for $25. The Manatee Festival includes arts, crafts, food and live musical entertainment, such as the "Sounds Like Buffett To Me," a Jimmy Buffett sound-alike contest and manatee tours on Kings Bay. Any art or food vendor interested in participating in the festival can call the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce, 726-2801. -- The 31st Festival of the Arts, sponsored by the Citrus County Art League, will accept artists' entries until Oct. 11.
