DUNNELLON -- A Friday night car crash killed a Dunnellon resident who was driving a car out of a restaurant parking lot and was struck by an oncoming car.
The driver of a 1998 Mercury was pulling onto U.S. 41 from the parking lot of Bently's Restaurant, 11920 N Florida Ave., about 8:30 p.m. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, the driver apparently failed to see an oncoming car southbound on U.S. 41 and pulled into its path. The oncoming car, a 20001 Plymouth, struck the Mercury on the driver's side.
The driver of the Mercury was killed. The dead person's identification was not released by FHP pending notification of next of kin. A passenger in the car, Chauncey Reich, 50, of Dunnellon, was injured and airlifted to Tampa General Hospital. No information on his condition was available Saturday.
The driver of the Plymouth, Elizabeth Hawthorne, 24, of Dunnellon, was injured, as was a passenger, Marilyn Troutman, 3, of Dunnellon.
Both were airlifted to Tampa General.
A Tampa General nursing supervisor said the three car crash patients were initially in critical condition. No other information on their condition was available Saturday.
Charges are pending, according to the FHP.
