SCOUTING REPORT: Saturday, the Yankees clinched their fifth consecutive AL East title. But they still have something to play for: New York, Oakland and Anaheim are battling for the AL's best record, which would secure homefield advantage in the League Championship Series.
The Yankees lead the majors in runs (869) and are second in homers. They could become the second team with five players with more than 100 RBIs: Jason Giambi, Jorge Posada, Alfonso Soriano, Robin Ventura and Bernie Williams.
TAMPA BAY CONNECTIONS: Rays pitcher Victor Zambrano was released by the Yankees as a minor-league infielder. ... Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer is a longtime Treasure Island resident and bullpen coach Rich Monteleone a former Tampa prep star. ... Several Yankees, including David Wells and Derek Jeter, have offseason homes in the area.
ALL-TIME SERIES: The Yankees have won 11 of 15 this season and lead 49-21 overall, 26-7 at Yankee Stadium.
WHO'S HOT: Soriano is batting .429 (12-for-28) with two homers, six RBIs and one stolen base in his past seven games.
WHO'S NOT: Ventura is hitting .100 (2-20) with six strikeouts in his past seven games.
