    Brandon man dies in head-on collision

    RIVERVIEW -- A Brandon man died early Saturday in a head-on collision along U.S. 301 and Symmes Road near Riverview.

    Ronald Prater, 35, of 805 Dearwolf Road, was heading south on U.S. 301, just south of Symmes, at about 4:15 a.m. when a vehicle going north crossed into his lane and hit him, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

    The driver of the other vehicle, Jose Perez, 17, of Gibsonton, was taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was in critical condition.

    The FHP said neither was wearing a seat belt.

    Deputies find man shot to death near Wimauma

    WIMAUMA -- Sheriff's deputies found a man shot to death at a house along County Road 579 south of Wimauma on Sunday morning.

    Authorities were sent to the house at 11:53 a.m. and found the door ajar with a man dead inside.

    The address and victim's name were not released, pending notification of his relatives.
