Free resource directory available

The latest information on agencies and businesses that provide services to seniors in Pinellas and Pasco counties is available in the 2002-2003 Senior Resource Directory. Seniors age 60 and older can get a free copy by calling toll-free 1-800-861-8111. Health professionals and anyone under 60 can purchase the directory for $27 per copy.

Skin cancer screening

Arbor Oaks At Tyrone, an assisted living residence, will host a seminar on skin cancer and common skin disorder for older adults at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Chart your memories in writing group

Get motivated to write down your memories in the "Writing Your Stories" group meeting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday's beginning Oct. 8 at the Azalea Adult Center, 1600 72nd St. N, St. Petersburg. Friends can get in free to Sunken Gardens

Take advantage of the summer renovation specials at Sunken Gardens. In September, buy one adult admission and bring a friend in for free. The gardens are open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays. Regular admission is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors (55 and older) and $3 for children (3-11). Call 551-3100 for information.

Daylong conference will focus on elder care issues

The Guardian Association of Pinellas County will host "Milestones in Elder Care," an annual conference featuring medical and legal education relating to the elderly, 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27 at the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, 11 Central Ave., St. Petersburg.

Clearwater food pantry needs extra hands

The Religious Community Services Food Pantry needs volunteers to help sort food during the week. The pantry, at 700 Druid Road in Clearwater, receives thousands of pounds of food every week and serves about 2,000 families. Volunteers also are needed to check applications for assistance and distribute food. For information, call 443-4031.

Free health screenings in October

Tampa General Hospital, 2 Columbia Drive, Tampa, is offering a series of free health screenings at 5:30 p.m. followed by informational presentations at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday in October in the MacInnes Auditorium. Topics include Thyroid problems and symptoms (Oct. 2), Osteoporosis (Oct. 9), Vertebroplasty to Treat Spinal Fractures (Oct. 16), Heart Health for Women (Oct. 23) and Your Daughter is Maturing (Oct. 30). The West Central Florida Area Agency on Aging has compiled a comprehensive listing of services available to senior residents of Hillsborough, Polk, Manatee, Highlands and Hardee counties. The Gold Resource Directory is available by call toll-free 1-800-336-2226, ext. 233. Fee is $6 per copy.
