Museum of history boss bids farewellBy MARY JANE PARK© St. Petersburg Times published September 24, 2002 ST. PETERSBURG -- Mathias Bergendahl left office Monday as executive director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History. One of his last acts was to buy a $25 membership. "As much as I love the museum, and I do love the museum," he said, "it was time to look out for my own personal growth and my own career and look out for my future." After taking a month off to visit friends and family in Sweden, he said, he will join Merrill Lynch as a financial adviser. Bergendahl, 32, took the helm of the museum in December 2000. Membership has increased from 300 in July 2001 to 850, he said Monday. He previously was marketing and public relations director at the Florida International Museum. He came to the United States from Sweden in 1995. Mary Wyatt Allen, the museum's first vice president, said Bergendahl resigned in good standing. The search has begun for his successor. The executive director has overall responsibility for museum operations, program ideas and fundraisers, she said. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
