DUNNELLON -- The woman killed in a crash outside Bentley's restaurant on U.S. 41 N on Friday night has been identified as 69-year-old Shelia Kerr Lake of 8835 SW 196 Terrace Road, Dunnellon. Lake died at the scene of the two-car collision, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. She was driving a gray 1998 Mercury and was attempting to turn north out of the restaurant's parking lot when she was struck by a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The driver of the PT Cruiser, Elizabeth Hawthorne, 24, also was injured in the crash. Her condition was not available Tuesday. Charges are pending.

Crystal River council member files to enter election

CRYSTAL RIVER -- City Council member Bonnie Taylor on Tuesday became the fifth person to file papers for the city elections. Taylor, who is running for Seat 2, will face Roger Proffer, owner of the Military Outlet on Citrus Avenue, and any other candidates who file by noon Friday. Former council member Robert Holmes is the only candidate to have filed for Seat 4, which is being vacated by Russ Kreager. The race for mayor so far pits incumbent Ron Kitchen against Ray Wallace, a former council member.

Citrus United Basket to mark 25th anniversary Saturday

INVERNESS -- Citrus United Basket, also known as CUB, a local food and clothes bank, will celebrate its 25th anniversary from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Citrus County Auditorium at the fairgrounds on U.S. 41 S. The event features a cookout, entertainment, games and door prizes. There will be a silent auction and a children's game area. Eddie Shanon and Company will entertain. Bring a can of food and receive a chance for a door prize.
