DETROIT -- Henrik Zetterberg, Nicklas Lidstrom and Jiri Fischer scored for the Red Wings, and the league champions held on for a 3-2 preseason victory over the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
Fischer scored the winner in the second on a slap shot from the top of the left circle off a rebound. Down 3-1, Toronto pulled its goaltender for an extra attacker and got a power-play goal from Robert Reichel with 1:19 left.
DEVILS 2, RANGERS 1 (OT): Brian Rafalski scored 1:40 into the extra period for visiting New Jersey. Steve Guolla skated down the left side and sent a pass that got past the outstretched stick of New York defenseman Tom Poti. Rafalski took the puck in stride and pushed it past Daniel Blackburn.
FLYERS 4, ISLANDERS 2: Simon Gagne scored twice in the third for host Philadelphia. Keith Primeau and Marty Murray also scored, and Kim Johnsson added three assists for the Flyers, who gave new coach Ken Hitchcock his first home victory.
THRASHERS 5, PREDATORS 4: Tomi Kallio scored twice for host Atlanta. Kallio tied the score at 4 with 7:57 left, and broke the tie with 5:17 remaining.
BLACKHAWKS 5, STARS 3: Kyle Calder had two power-play goals in the third and Matt Henderson had the tiebreaker in the second for visiting Chicago. Michael Leighton and Steve Passmore combined for 16 saves for the Blackhawks.
OILERS 4, CANUCKS 2: Josh Green and Fernando Pisani each had a goal and an assist for visiting Edmonton. Ryan Smyth and rookie Ales Hemsky also scored for the Oilers.
BLACKHAWKS: All-Star forward Eric Daze will have back surgery for a herniated disc today and will be out at least six weeks.
COYOTES: Former All-Star defenseman Paul Coffey agreed to join the team as a special teams consultant, a position created to add some punch on the power play. ... Goaltender Colin Zulianello was assigned to AHL Springfield.
LIFE AFTER HOCKEY PROGRAM: The NHL's alumni association and the players association have created a program that helps players find out what they can or want to do after ending their careers, such as get a university degree or have career counseling.
MIGHTY DUCKS: Joffrey Lupul, the team's first pick in the June draft, has fully recovered from a hairline fracture in a lower vertebra, though it might be too late to avoid being sent down.
RANGERS: Forward Pavel Bure hurt his twice rebuilt right knee. He will have it checked today.
REUNION: Bobby Clarke likely will join his former teammates this weekend to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Canada's win at the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union.
