In a match shortened to nine holes, Jesuit gets the better of Chamberlain, Wharton and Hillsborough.

TAMPA -- In weather more suited for ducks than golfers, four of the county's top teams sloshed through their nine-hole match at Rogers Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
When they finally found cover from the constant rain, Jesuit bested Chamberlain by two strokes, 154-156. Wharton finished third at 160, and host Hillsborough was fourth at 173.
Chamberlain freshman Brad Brunner tied with Adam Hoyer of Jesuit for low score with 37. Wharton's Barrett White and Jeff Anderson of Hillsborough shot 39.
The match was interrupted once by lightning and held to nine holes due to the weather.
"This was a huge match for us," Jesuit coach Joe Kijanski said. "The kids need to be tournament tough, and they faced some great prep golfers in tough conditions today."
Defending district and region champion Mike Giammaresi of Wharton shot 40. It was not one of the state tournament qualifier's best rounds, but it provided a chance to tinker with his already refined game.
"I wasn't hitting many greens, but I was working on my grip and posture," said Giammaresi, the Times county player of the year last year. "The course plays longer, and the greens are more undulating since they redesigned it last year."
Wharton used the contest to tune up for a match today against Saddlebrook at Hunter's Green at 2:30 p.m.
