Bacteria closes Oelsner Park Beach againBy© St. Petersburg Times published September 26, 2002 PORT RICHEY -- Oelsner Park Beach was closed for the second time this month after tests on Wednesday revealed high levels of bacteria in the water. The Pasco County Public Health Department released test results showing "poor" water quality from the kind of bacteria that indicates fecal pollution from stormwater runoff, pets, wildlife and human sewage. Such bacteria can cause diseases, infections or rashes. Port Richey officials responded by closing the beach. The beach also was closed after the previous warning from the health department about the beach, on Sept. 6. The warning was lifted Sept. 12. A warning of high bacteria levels remained in effect on Wednesday for Robert J. Strickland (Hudson) Beach. It has been closed since an advisory on Sept. 6. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
