Images of war

[Times photo: Jamie Francis]

The photographic images coming out of Afghanistan and the Middle East have produced a powerful record of war and the war-torn halfway across the world.

Photographs by Jamie Francis and James Borchuck of the St. Petersburg Times document the strife and also the life that continues amid the turmoil. The images were taken on assignment for news stories. A collection is on view at the Tampa Gallery of Photographic Arts in Olde Hyde Park Village, 746 S Village Circle (off Swann Avenue) in Tampa. The museum is open 6 p.m to 8 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Free admission.

Francis and Borchuck will give a free talk and slide show today at 7:30 p.m. at the museum, or, weather permitting, in the square. You're asked to bring a lawn chair. (813) 251-1800.
