In the news
By Times staff writer Fans of The Nanny Diaries be prepared: more adventures of Park Avenue's "X" family are on the way. Co-authors, and ex-Manhattan nannies, Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus have signed a two-book deal at Random House that includes a Nanny sequel and a comic novel about a young woman "bedeviled by bosses of various stripes," according to a Random House statement. The authors, who met while students at New York University, spent years working as childcare providers in the same neighborhood in which their novel is set. They have said that while none of their 30 former families is portrayed in the book, the things their heroine experiences during her year with the characters named Mr. and Mrs. X and their 4-year-old son, Grayer Addison X, aren't exaggerations. 'CSI' stars slam 'CSI: Miami'CSI: Miami, starring David Caruso and Kim Delaney, may have attracted nearly 23-million viewers Monday night -- making it the most-watched September drama debut since ER in 1994 -- but the Florida-based spinoff of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation isn't charming everyone, reports People magazine. In fact, the original show's star and producer, William Petersen, has publicly ripped the copycat program. "They should have waited five years for a CSI spin-off, or at least four," Petersen tells the Chicago Sun-Times. "They won't even wait for that ... time to gestate, like a Law & Order." CSI co-star Marg Helgenberger also got in her two cents' worth at the Emmy pre-show Sept. 22, telling Matt Lauer, "As far as I'm concerned, there's only one CSI, and that's the one nominated tonight." Minnie Driver getting her own TV seriesNBC is giving Minnie Driver the keys to her own series. The Oscar-nominated co-star of Good Will Hunting will develop and star in a comedy or drama for the 2003-04 season. Driver appeared in several television shows in her native England before U.S. audiences got to know her through films. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
