Parrots hire former Lightning scout as sales VP

ST. PETERSBURG -- The AHL's Parrots named Don Murdoch vice president and director of corporate sales. Murdoch, a former scout for the Lightning, also will be the team's governor and have minority ownership.

Murdoch played six seasons with the Rangers, Oilers and Red Wings, totaling 121 goals and 116 assists in 320 games.

Murdoch will oversee the corporate sales activity and ticket sales for the Parrots. He also will help coach and general manager Bruce Ramsay evaluate team talent and serve as a liaison to the scouting department.

"I love this area and have chosen to make it my home for almost a decade," Murdoch said. "The opportunity to work with the young men that play at this level is special because I love giving back to the game that has given me so much."

OILERS 4, FLAMES 3: Jiri Dopita scored the winning goal midway through the third for host Edmonton in a preseason game. Jason Chimera, Steve Staios and Daniel Cleary also scored for the Oilers, and Chuck Kobasew, Jarome Iginla and Chris Clark scored for Calgary.

COYOTES: Goalie Brian Boucher signed a multiyear deal. The 25-year-old came to Phoenix last spring after playing 41 games in Philadelphia.

KINGS: Mike Cammalleri, a top prospect expected to play opening night, wing Jared Aulin and defenseman Joe Corvo were assigned to AHL's Manchester.

RED WINGS: The team assigned 10 players to AHL's Grand Rapids, reducing the roster to 28.
