Hearing in Ted Williams case is rescheduled for Nov. 6

INVERNESS -- A hearing scheduled for today in the Ted Williams case was postponed and rescheduled for Nov. 6. Lawyers for the baseball legend's older daughter, Bobby-Jo Williams Ferrell, said the delay was caused by a scheduling conflict. Circuit Judge Patricia Thomas is expected to rule at the Nov. 6 hearing on a motion filed by Ferrell's half-siblings, who are asking the court to throw out on technical grounds Ferrell's claim to her father's body. Ferrell is seeking to have her father's body cremated and the ashes spread over the coast of Florida. Ted Williams' body is currently at a cryonics lab in Arizona.

Flags to remain in place through Veterans Day

INVERNESS -- The 50 American flags waving along Main Street should remain in place through Veterans Day, Nov. 11, barring any major storm that forces them to come down sooner, City Manager Frank DiGiovanni told the Inverness City Council on Tuesday. The city plans to continue the flag project, although the flags will probably fly earlier in the year -- from Memorial Day to Flag Day, and again around Independence Day -- to avoid the hurricane season.
