TAMPA -- A would-be robber was shot in Ybor City late Friday night after pulling a gun on a parking lot attendant who was also armed, Tampa police said.

About 11:50 p.m., Wilburt Larkins, 33, drove a 1995 Ford Explorer into a paid parking lot on the north side of E Sixth Avenue, between N 16th Street and E 17th Street, police said.

When attendant Ian C. McGeehan, 30, tried to collect the fee, Larkins pulled a gun, grabbed him and demanded money, police said.

McGeehan pulled out his own gun and shot Larkins in the shoulder and leg, police said.

Larkins was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition Saturday. He faces charges of attempted armed robbery, attempted kidnapping and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

McGeehan, who is from St. Petersburg, is licensed to carry a firearm, police said.
