GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina coach Steve Logan put his team through a tough week of practice after a 20-point loss to West Virginia. The Pirates players might not have liked it, but they can't argue with the results.

The Pirates tied Southern Miss atop the league standings one week after allowing 536 rushing yards.
"It was full pads," Logan said of practices. "And it was full combat."
