ST. PETERSBURG -- A St. Petersburg man foiled a carjacking attempt early Saturday by taking a gun away from one of his attackers, police said.
About 12:26 a.m., a man and a woman were approached by two men as they sat in a 1995 Infiniti, parked in a lot behind 224 Beach Drive NE.
One of the attackers held a .22-caliber handgun, the report said. The couple were forced to unlock the car and get out. A struggle ensued and the man was able to get control of the gun, police said.
The attackers ran, but police caught one of them a short time later, police said. He was identified as 20-year-old Antonio T. Pruitt, of 5001 Emerson Ave. S. He was charged with armed robbery and felony possession of a firearm. The second attacker was not caught.
