A 5-month-old girl was seriously injured, and her father was arrested after a hit-and-run accident at State Road 60 and Miller Road on Monday night, officials said.

The father, whose name couldn't be confirmed Monday, was driving a 1986 Jeep east on SR 60 about 6 p.m. when he ran a red light and struck a northbound 1997 Ford Explorer driven by Simon Marano, deputies said. He left the scene with his wife and daughter.

A passing driver gave the family a ride to a relative's home at 3810 Robinson Road, where they realized the girl was hurt, authorities said. She was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital and was in critical condition late Monday.

Marano, the driver of the Explorer, was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital along with his son, 10, and daughter, 6. Marano broke his collarbone, and his son was hurt. His daughter was not hurt.

The man was arrested and faces several charges related to the crash, including leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, driving on a suspended license and being a habitual traffic offender.
