Treasure Island seeks new name for rec center

TREASURE ISLAND -- The city is looking for suggestions for a new name for its Treasure Island Golf, Tennis and Recreation Center, 10315 Paradise Blvd.

City officials have called the name "too long and generic." They say it is often confused with the Treasure Island Tennis & Yacht Club and the city's Community Center.

The city is looking for a catchy name that will promote the facility, particularly its golf and tennis aspects.

Suggestions are being accepted through 4:30 p.m. Friday. Interested people should deliver their suggestions to the Treasure Island Recreation Department, 120 108th Ave.

For information, call Recreation Director Cathy Hayduke at 547-4575.

The proceeds will benefit the city recreation department children's program's Treasure Island Tennis juniors programs and the Gulf Beaches Rotary Foundation.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and costs $25 per player, which includes play, a goodie bag and a raffle ticket for a new tennis racquet. The event will also include a silent auction.

For information, call the Recreation Center at 360-6062.
