Lecanto star will not playBy KEITH NIEBUHR, Times Staff Writer© St. Petersburg Times published October 11, 2002 LECANTO -- Lecanto tailback Jarvis Patterson, the county's leading rusher, will miss tonight's game against Hernando because of a sore back. Patterson, who has 892 yards and 8 touchdowns on 129 carries, did not practice all week and will not be in uniform. He could return next week, Panthers coach Dick Slack said. "The doctor told him whenever he's ready, he can go," Slack said. Patterson left last Friday's loss to Crystal River in the second quarter after complaining of back spasms. He was taken to a local hospital that night, then was further evaluated Monday. In Patterson's absence, Lecanto (3-2) will rotate several players at tailback, including Brian Dawsy, Travis Richards and Matt Simmons. "We're as ready as we can be," Slack said. "We're very excited about it. We had a great week of practice." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
