Orchestra adds to the music mix
By JORGE SANCHEZ, Times Staff Writer The Central Florida Philharmonic Orchestra begins its concert season Sunday, featuring the combined forces of the orchestra and the Central Florida Master Choir on a Beethoven symphony. Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D Minor is remarkable in classical music because the composer presented it to the public after he became deaf. He also introduced a chorus to the piece. Both the orchestra and the Master Choir are under the direction of Dr. Susan Robinson. The choir will feature more than 50 singers. The box office opens at 2 p.m. and the concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium at Lecanto High on County Road 491 S. Tickets are $20 for reserved seats, $15 for general admission and $5 for students. Call 527-8405. Sandi Patty at Rock Crusher pavilionSandi Patty has won both Grammy awards and Dove awards and legions of fans in her 20-year career as a contemporary Christian recording artist. Patty and two opening acts perform at Saturday at Rock Crusher Canyon Garden Pavilion, 275 S Rock Crusher Road, Crystal River. Gates open at 5 p.m. and music starts at 7. Patty's concert tour is her first in a decade and is called the Trio of Hope. The other parts of the trio consist of Scott Krippayne, a rising star in Christian music whose newest CD is All of Me, and Wayne Watson, whose song For Such a Time As This, was featured in the 1999 season premier of the television show Touched By an Angel. Watson has been recording since the 1980s and his most recent CDs are Field of Souls and The Way Home. The concert will present a message of hope through Christian, popular and patriotic music. The show, originally scheduled for the large amphitheater, was moved to the more intimate Garden Pavilion at Rock Crusher Canyon. The Sandi Patty concert begins at 7 p.m. Gates open at 5. Six-string music at the SamplerThe Sunday Sampler in Dunnellon presents folk music with an island feel with Sam Milner and Rick West. Milner and West combined their solo careers into a folk duo act about three years ago when they played consecutive nights at the same Key West bar. "We greeted each other like long lost friends, because we'd heard of one another for 10 years or so, but our paths never crossed," West said. "We sat in on a set together and found musically we were meant for each other." The Sampler begins at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Dunnellon Historic Theater at Dunnellon Middle School. Take U.S. 41 N and turn left on Park Avenue. Admission is $7, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the Dunnellon Middle School technology classes.
