Union asks district for $1-per-hour pay bumpBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times published October 11, 2002 INVERNESS -- During contract negotiations Thursday, Citrus Essential Support Personnel, the union that represents the school district's aides, clerks and secretaries, asked that its members receive $1-per-hour pay increases and a series of other compensation enhancements. The union represents about 450 members. The employees asked for assistance from administrators in determining the total cost of the various increases in the proposal, according to Ed Murphy, chief administration negotiator. The proposal also sought six paid holidays, $100 bonuses per quarter for perfect attendance, $2,000 for any teacher aide required to get a degree or pass a certification test, $300 for workers who must perform certain invasive procedures for students or work with severely handicapped students and the base pay of a teacher for any aide who must oversee a class for 31/2 or more hours a day for a teacher. Additional pay raises, above and beyond the across-the-board $1 increases, were proposed for long-term employees. For example, those with 10 years of experience would get a 50 cent per hour increase. Those with 15 years would get 75 cents per hour more and those with 20 years a $1 per hour increase. The union and administration teams discussed various other contract proposals Thursday and agreed to meet again in early November to continue talks. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
